CCME extended producer liability

By ,

Also called Product Stewardship, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a strategy that aims to integrate into the market price of products the environmental costs associated with those goods throughout their life cycles. So essentially, manufacturers are held responsible for the environmental and social impacts of their products.

CCME has now released a Canada-wide Action Plan for EPR and Canada-wide Strategy for Sustainable Packaging as approved in principle by the Council of Ministers on October 29, 2009. Under the plan, governments across Canada would have to implement EPR regulations, which will no doubt impact a large number of suppliers.
