Tarsands emit more CO2 than many countries

By ,

A new report commissioned by Greenpeace has found that the Alberta Tar Sands emit more CO2 than some small countries, including Lithuania, and will surpass larger countries and the world’s largest volcanoes by 2020. The Tar Sands are simply massive in scale, they can be seen from outer space and their tailings ponds are bigger than your average lake.

The National Geographic did a fantastic report on them a few months ago, which left many politicians on their heels. The Tar Sands may bring in billions of dollars in cash, but they are leaving a disastrous legacy for our children. Despite the evident damage, it is difficult to see how politicians will reign in these monsters – especially with an upcoming election and the liberals hoping to woo the west.
