Last year, Toronto announced a proposal to charge for plastic bags. It will likely be approved next week. Some forward thinking companies are jumping the gun, and setting an example. Loblaw has announced it will charge 5 cents per plastic bag. Amazing! It is not big suprise that a sur-charge on bags reduces consumption, but it is interesting to note that an equivalant rebate on your bill does not have nearly the same impact on bag consumption. See the CBC article here for more details. I assume this applies to Provigo stores as well?
